What exactly is a portfolio and how do you do?

I'm a little confused about what a portfolio and the individual types of portfolios there. (For example, model portfolios, and portfolios of artists, make-up … That's all I can think of for now.) And it all happens in a portfolio? Need something special to do it and how is it done?

A portfolio is traditionally a folder that contains the best examples of their work. However, these days the idea of portfolio has expanded to include the use of slides or digital images on a hard work.
