What is a liquid highlighter used for in makeup?

my friend got me a makeup kit for xmas and there is a liquid highlighter in it. does anyone know what that is?

also people put it on their cheek bones and temples. I put some down the middle of my nose to make it look slimmer. It really brightens my face along with tinted moisturizer. I feel so luminous and awake. People always compliment me on my face and not make up. That’s what you want.
