Who pays for the bridesmaids’ hair and makeup?

My fiancee asked me who traditionally pays for the bridesmaids’ hair and makeup. Is it the bridesmaids themselves or the bride?

I have been in several weddings and I have always paid for everything. The only thing I have ever received from the brides is the jewelry. I have chosen in the past to have my hair done (do my own make-up, like it better), but that was strictly my own doing, not “required” by the bride.
