Mixed Foundation?

I have read in the Book of Iman makeup you use to mix the Foundation to match your complexion. Im taking trouble finding a foundation that matches my skin tone without my explosion. I use CoverGirl own fawn but it seems a little too red, but everything will be lighter too small. No one else blends foundations for a perfect match?

If I do, somehow. I put a lighter shade of make up (loreal match a) first, then put on a heavy base that without the lighter color then I would be too orange. Then I put the loose dust and makes the color and finish of my skin color display. I hope that helped
