In Asia, Africa and South America, the pervasiveness of the beauty of the skin with light in the media and the cultural preference for lighter skin has fueled public demand for skin lightening products. The trend of skin pigmentation to be more inclined to also develop hyperpigmentation has contributed to this request. In Asia alone, nearly 2 in 5 women admitted to using skin lightening creams. In this industry several million dollars, large brands such as Olay and L'Oreal are often in competition with fly-by-night operators to package their products in the factory of the house '. Mercury or hydroquinone initially cause the skin to relieve inhibiting the production of melanin. Without the formation of melanin, no brown pigmentation will be visible. This produces the same time, "boasted relief" results. However, long-term effects of these two chemicals are not as good. Mercury or Hydroquinone is known to cause stains, uniform complexion, the skin easily sunburned, peeling skin, increased pigmentation, thickening of the skin, large pores, itching, redness, dark spots, light pink spots, and signs of premature aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.

This not the worst. Since both hydroquinone and mercury are carcinogenic ingredients, the long-term use can cause skin cancer. In particular, mercury may affect renal liver and kidney and nervous system damage. The mothers of mercury is extremely toxic to unborn children and pregnant women use creams containing mercury can give birth to babies with brain damage and other deformities.

The use of mercury in skin care has been banned in most countries. Hydroquinone has been banned in the UK since 2001 and was recently banned in Asian countries like Malaysia. In the United States, however, the products of skin care containing less than 2% hydroquinone are still sold without prescription. The prohibition or restriction of these ingredients in many countries will not stop illegal imports manufacturers and ingredients used in their products. Some signs that a critical care product can contain these dangerous chemicals is a list of Product ingredients, or the absence of any local board certified cosmetic regulation.

The next time you go shopping for lightening products to whiten the skin, make sure the ingredients are printed on the product box or container. More importantly, ensure that the product was certified by the Board on the regulation of cosmetics in the country of manufacture.
